Crazy Weather

I can't believe this crazy weather!!!  We had inside recess all last week and it looks like we may be inside again this week, if we ever get back to school!  We did mix it up a bit and we did do some zumba dancing.  The kids thought it was hard, I just think it takes a little practice.  But, I'm not going to say that too loud because I really don't think any of us want to take our recesses INDOORS to practice it!

We have some important dates coming up like Jump Rope for Heart and Valentines Day!  They are both going to be on Thursday, February 14.  We will jump in the morning and have our celebration in the afternoon.  It will be a super fun day.  Please be sure to be raising some money if you can.  Forms went home last week and need to be turned in on the 11th.  If your child brought one home with the wrong name, it was my mistake.  Please just cross out that child's name and write your child's name.  Thanks and sorry for the mix up.  I will be sending home a container for you and your child to decorate together for their Valentine cards.  You may make it look however you would like!  Enjoy the project!  Please have it her on or before February 14.  A class list will be coming home this week for you to start working on cards.

Report cards went home on Friday.  If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me.

Looking forward to another great week!

Half Way There

I can't believe we are half way through first grade!!  Time flies when you're having fun, right?!  We had a week full of testing getteing ready for report cards.  These will be coming home on Friday!!!  We are all making progress and that's good news!  Thanks for all the support that you are giving them at home!  It is much appreciated!

This week we had more indoor recess because of the ice on the playground and I think they got more sick of it than i did.  Poor things!  I told them if we had one more inside recess I was breaking out the Zumba video and we were going to do that the whole recess.  Not knowing what that was, they were all disappointed when Mr. Smith announced outside recess!  Now, they keep asking for it!  I guess I'll have to save it for a rainy day now!  I don't want to spoil the "surprise"!

We will be celebrating Martin Luther King day with some segregation activities to really get the kids to understand what it may have been like to live back in that time frame.  So, if they come home and say they didn't get to do something, it was just for the day!!!  I'm actually looking forward to it!!  Can't wait for them to experience history!

I just have to share this funny "kid" story that happened in one of my conferences this week.  I was trying to help one of the students visualize being one of the characters in his book.  The characters were baking cookies.  I said, "I can just smell those cookies, can't you?"  He thought for a minute and then said, "No, I just smell owls I guess."  Maybe I have too many owls in the classroom....

Have a good week all!!

We Survived

Well, we survived the first 3 days back!  I'm kind of grateful it wasn't a full week.  We had inside recess all day on Friday and that can get to everybody!  We did enjoy wearing our pajamas and watching 'The Polar Express' though!  I even surprised them with a hot chocolate treat!

We will be collecting items for the PTO gift baskets.  Our theme is S'mores.  More information will be in the newsletter so look for it there. You can send in any item that you like that goes with S'mores.  Since I am a BIG pinterest fan, I have learned to try new things on my S'mores.  Have you ever tried different candy bars?  Have you ever tried roasting a rolo inside your marshmallow?  I have BIG plans for this summer's camp fires.  I may even just roast them over the grill for fun to try these great ideas.

Looking forward to a full week of learning and fun!

Happy New Year!!

Wow!!  2013!!  Happy New Year to all of you!  I hope that everyone had a restful vacation.  We had a bonus 2 extra days!  Those were nice, for me anyway!  We are the luckiest class because we had our party before the snowstorm hit and we don't have to plan on it this week!  I feel lucky anyway!  We will plan on having our pajama afternoon on Friday while the other classes are doing their Christmas parties.  We will plan on wearing our PJs for only the afternoon though.  So, pack those PJs and we will change after lunch.  If anything changes, I will send a note home.

We had a lot of fun at our Christmas party though.  We played some Minute-to-Win-It games.  I think everyone had a fun time. Here is a picture from one of the games we played.  Some of the other games we played were Face the Cookie.  Players had to move a cookie from their forehead to their mouths only using their facial muscles.  We also had tissue paper fish that they had to use a plate to get into a basket a few feet away.  Some students had to suck a bean to a straw and carry it to a cup on another table.  We had a lot of fun and everyone was a good sport while we played the games!!

Addean doing nose dive.  She had vaseline on her nose and had to transfer cotton balls from one place to another using only her nose!!

We also went to the post office and mailed our letters to Santa.  Good thing we did this before the snow storm or our letters would have been late!!

I can't wait to see what this new year brings with this class.  I hope it will be even more fun than the beginning of the year has been!  I'm looking forward to it!
