We Are Officially Half Way There!

Well, we are officially half way through the year!!  We have been working hard and I feel like the class has made some great gains.  Report cards will come home this Friday.  I had everyone read to me again and you should see some harder books coming home with them in their reading folders.  Their reading has improved a lot and you should just see is improve even more from now until spring break even.  I am very excited!!  If you have any questions or concerns about their books, please feel free to contact me!

Meet the 100 Books Read Club and Some Realistic Fiction Characters

We have some of students that have read 100 books already!!!  Here they are.  Your child should be approaching 100  books if they are on track.  Great job group!!

We have been working hard at learning how to write realistic fiction stories.  We all created a fictional character.  Here are a few that we came up with.

Nathan and his character Kevin

Alexis and her character Emma

Michael and his character Morondo

We are having a great time creating these characters and their problems.  Can't wait to put it all together into a story!!

Getting Back in the Groove

OK, I think I enjoyed my break way too much!!  I had a hard time getting back into the groove and was extremely tired by the time Friday rolled around and it was a short week!!!  I was glad to be back.  I do really miss the little kiddos when we have a break and I loved to hear all their excitement about their breaks!!  Some got some very nice gifst and some had some great stories to tell!!  I'm looking forward to some "normal" weeks here in January.  We will be doing our mid-year testing over the next few weeks, so it is very important that your child is here.  I will also be conducting running records and doing report card testing as well.  You should be seeing some big improvements in your child's reading, writing, and math skills since the beginning of the year.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesistate to call me!!  Here's to a great week back!!

Christmas Activities

We had a very fun last days before school let out before Christmas break.  We were able to enjoy a walk to the post office to mail our letters to Santa, mom and dad, or even grandma and grandpa.  We celebrated Christmas by playing Minute To Win It games and doing a gift exchange.  On Wednesday we got to wear our pajamas to school and watch a movie while enjoying hot chocolate and popcorn.  Here's what it looked like.
Go Fish - use a paper plate to get a tissue paper fist into the basket

There She Blows:  use a straw to blow the cup across the table

Nose Dive: Put vaseline on your nose and transfer cotton balls from your table to a plate across the room using only your nose.

Bean There Done That:  Use a straw to transfer a bean from your table to a cup at another table

Noodling Around:  Use a spaghetti noodle to pick up 6 penne noodles off the table using only the spaghetti noodle and your mouth

Face the Cookie:  Put a cookie on your forehead and using only your facial expressions move it to your mouth

We walked to the post office and mailed letters to Santa.  The weather was balmy for this time of year.
